Although aerobics is important for a person's health as well as for getting and staying in good physical shape, people often are deterred because they feel they do not have time or energy for exercise. An aerobic exercise is any activity that raises your heart rate to a level of 70 to 80 percent. This includes brisk walking, jogging, stair climbing, biking as well as the standard aerobic dance.

The benefits of an aerobic lifestyle include a healthier cardiovascular system, added energy, an overall sense of well being and a leaner and stronger body. Studies show people who exercise regularly are healthier, sleep better and have a better outlook on life making them feel happier.

Always begin any exercise with a period of warming the muscles up, this can include stretching and light calisthenics to slowly increase the heart and make the muscles warm and fluid to avoid injury.

The body of the workout should last 15 to 30 minutes and a short cool down including stretching should complete the aerobics workout.
