Looking for something new to try with your family and friends? If you want to do something that everyone will enjoy, while getting a little exercise, why not give miniature golf a try. It's a great way to spend time with your family, and reconnect with the people you care about. Miniature golf offers fun and good natured competitiveness. Many courses are a definite challenge, but will give you a sense of accomplishment when you finally get through them.

Not all miniature golf courses are created equally. Each is unique and requires a different method for success. But one thing that remains consistent about them all; they bring fun and entertainment to the player. Some courses are more easily beaten than others, but those that are more difficult will give you a greater sense of achievement once you've successfully navigated them. You may have to play a few courses to find the one thats right for you, or do a little investigation to find your perfect game.

The internet is an invaluable resource for finding information about everything and anything. Miniature golf is no exception! You can browse the internet to find the right miniature golf course for your needs. Finding a site that compares local miniature golf courses and their skill levels is simple; just direct your browser to your favorite search engine.

It's best to do a little research before you take young children miniature golfing. So that everyone enjoys themselves, it's important to make sure the course of your choice is not too difficult or too easy for your miniature golfing party.

You can be sure you've found a good place to play miniature golf if they have something for every skill level. Typically, the first shot will be much easier than the last, and everyone in between will get progressively more difficult. The reason for this is so that everyone gets the opportunity to find their miniature golfing groove. It's like a warm up. You should take your time with each shot and inevitably you will get better as you work your way through the course.

Miniature golf is amusing fun for the entire family, not just to play, but to watch others play as well. The best courses offer interesting looking shots and merry accompaniments. Some will look much like fairs and carnivals, with oversized moving parts, little ponds and lights that twinkle at night. No miniature golf course would be complete with a windmill. These kinds of decorations will make the course stand out and provide fun and lively entertainment and conversation.

Have You Been Scammed?

Do you want to make money online? Unless you have some insider advice or a great mentor, it can be very challenging to decipher all the offers and opportunities out there. I call it getting lost down the Internet rabbit hole.

If you are anything like me, every day youll have an in-box full of emails telling you about the latest and greatest ways to make money and get rich on the Internet. Ive been in the home business industry for several years, and have found businesses that work and many that dont. Once I decided that the Internet was a fantastic environment to develop my business and make money, I began to do some research. So I read a lot, joined many business opportunities and purchased a lot of systems and tools.

I found an enormous number of so-called Guru packages that claim to show you the system, the secret, the one way to make money in home business and make you successful. There are launches of new systems and products everyday, all with the promise of quick and easy ways to make money.

If you are like me, youll find that it gets to the point where you are really suffering from information overload, too many products, too many e-books too much software, and all those audios. Have you found that you have even forgotten what you have already purchased? Yet you are still looking for the perfect home business. Because you know that there must be a way for you to make money working at home.

Now dont get me wrong. There are heaps of people who make money online from many home business programs. And many are legitimate. But some really should be avoided.

Here are some tips on what to do to help you avoid being scammed.

First, make sure that the business is being offered by a legitimate company. This is easy to check see if you can phone them and that they have a real mail address. Do a Google search on the business name and the person involved, and check out related websites and forums. Also search for complaints. It is well worth spending some time researching.

Check how long this business has been running. You really want something that is established. There are heaps of start-ups, and of course their selling point is get in now with a ground floor opportunity and make money online faster. The truth is that 95% of these startups fail some very quickly, some after a year or so. And when they fall over, your business falls over too. So unless you are willing to risk your money and a lot of your effort, it is best to steer clear of startups.

There are a few types of home business that are suspect: these include home craft, stuffing envelopes, and typing at home. It appears that after paying the joining fee, no real work at home is actually available.

An obvious type to avoid is the pyramid scheme this is where you pay a fee for nothing of value, and get others to do the same, with a promise that you will make money. You may have seen these on and off the Internet. The point about these schemes is that they are illegal, and are not legitimate forms of making money in home business.

My research has let me to a conclusion and some advice. Do some research on the home business opportunity you are looking at. Avoid the pitfalls I have mentioned above.

Make sure you are getting something of value for the investment that is required.

And then focus to make sure that you make money with your own home business.

Down Spot! Down Princess! Down Rover! Down Peaches! Down Comet! Down Cupid! Down Donder and Blitzen! Ive heard that command many times, from many desperate dog owners, directed at many determined dogs. The jumping dog is a universal problem, but a better understanding of whats motivating the behavior can go a long way toward addressing it.

Dogs jump up on people for two reasons mainly. First, and probably most common, is the jumping dog who greets this way. This can simply be from over-excitement - they jump for joy. Dog behaviorists also point out that this is partly instinctive. Dogs lick each others faces when they want to give a super nice greeting, a likely reflection of lower ranking members of a wolf pack licked the faces of the higher ranking wolves returning from the hunt. In addition, puppies in a den jump over one another for their mothers attention. More specifically, they target her face, as a mother typically regurgitates food for her litter, another reflection of the wolf pack.

Also, this behavior can be positively reinforced during greeting times, when a jumping dog is met by an excited owner who immediately praises, feeds, walks and/or plays with their pet after getting jumped, so to speak. Jumping becomes part of this routine. It is rewarded and reinforced.

Another reason for jumping, which is less commonly the case, is that they may be trying to establish dominance. Dogs jump up on each other through whats known as teeing off. In particular, they rest their head or paw (or both paws) on the shoulder of a dog they want to dominate and exert a bit of downward pressure. Because we walk on two legs, were more difficult to tee off on, but the motivation is the same. The dog may be trying to express his dominant status. In these cases, they often jump up once and more or less lean on you.

Its important to identify this behavior by seeing it in the broader context of your relationship. First, realize a disobedient dog isnt necessarily a dumb one. If they dont listen to you, and push and pull you around some, they may have decided not to recognize you as their superior in the pack hierarchy (while still thinking the world of you as a companion!) Whether its male or female, a dog that consistently jumps on you may be exhibiting one of many behaviors of the signs of Alpha dog.

You should learn more about Alpha dog behavior, and if you suspect that the jumping is in fact an expression of dominance, then it is likely that your training will need to involve heavier corrections. This just means you might need to do more than simply ignore the dog while jumping and train them to Sit and Settle before getting your attention. For instance, water squirting, sharp growling, or even forcing the dog down and holding them down until they are still are all corrections that will short circuit this behavior.

Dogs love to dig, let's face it, it is a very natural and instinctual part of their makeup, and "it is a very enjoyable behavior for them" says Deborah L. Forthman, Ph.D. digging is something that dogs have been doing from the beginning, but there are ways to reduce the amount your dog digs.

Here are 7 different methods to help train your dog not to dig.

1.Before you begin with your dog obedience training on how to stop him from digging, try to figure out exactly what is causing your dog to behave that way. If he is very persistent into digging in one area, you may use the dog training command leave while using treats to distract him. You can also distract him by using a particular smell that excites him. These dog behavior modification methods typically work very well.

2. Try not to do any type of gardening and digging when your dog is around because remember that your dog looks up to you and wants to obey you, that being the case when your dog sees you digging and playing in the yard of course he will also think that is what he should be doing.

3. Exercise is a very important aspect of your dog's health, and not only that, the more exercise your dog gets, and the more energy the expends, the less likely that your dog will be able to muster up the energy, or the desire to go digging up your yard. If you find that your dog tends to like to dig at particular times of the day, then make sure you give him plenty of exercise around those times if possible so that he just can't be bothered digging.

4. Make sure that you are more understanding and less scolding with your dogs digging habit, particularly during the winter months. Often during the winter months dogs will dig more than the rest of the year the reasons that these years that your dog has a natural instinct for finding warmer places and dogs sense that by digging, they will get into a warmer area and this is certainly correct. If and when you do notice that your dog is digging more frequently when the temperature is cooler outside, then it is very important to be understanding and not to scold your dog for doing that, but relieve the situation by providing the right environment for him.

5. There are some dogs that absolutely positively can't resist digging, so rather than trying to go against nature and stop them altogether, let's take a different approach and create a special spot for your dog to dig in. Most dog experts agree that for some breeds it is almost impossible to prevent them from digging 100% of the time, and because your dog enjoys digging so much, train him to only dig in his special spot. The area you provide for him to did in doesn't need to be that big, something around three or four foot by six-foot should do the trick nicely.

6. Having your dog neutered or spade is one sure way to reduce their desire to dig because their drive to mate is drastically reduced, and without your dog having a strong desire to mate you almost certainly have a lot less holes in your yard.

7. Be very careful that if you do correct your dog when you catch him digging in the yard that you only do it with warmth and compassion, and that you absolutely must do it at the moment in time that he is digging and that you don't wait for him to stop and then correct him. This will reinforce whatever he is doing with your response, if you wait until he is finished and you scold him then he will get the wrong message.

Instead when you catch him digging try to immediately replace one activity with another, so therefore distract him from his digging and replace it with an enjoyable activity for him to do. If you continually do this it will help modify his behavior and reduce your dogs digging adventures.

The Chihuahua is know by no other name and has been popular north and south of the Rio Grande for many years. It is the oldest purebred canine native to the North American continent.

The Chihuahuas origin is filled with tales and extends back to the Toltec civilization of Mexico in the ninth century. Discovery of the earliest Chihuahuas were in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico. Ancestors of the Chihuahua could include a small hairless Chinese dog, which could account for the size reduction of the original Chihuahua. The ancient people in Mexico first developed a prairie dog or gopher, which was mute, longhaired and larger than the present-day Chihuahua.

Tales are many about the uses of this tiny dog in Toltec and later Aztec religious rites. Nearly all Chihuahua fanciers accept one fact: This is that the modern Chihuahua that was discovered in Chihuahua, Mexico, in the mid-1800s stands apart from all other canines. This tiny breed prefers its own kind to all other dogs. The Chihuahua can be sociable with other dogs, but most definitely still is more content when surrounded by other Chihuahuas. Because of this fact it probably is not a good idea to own other pets if you desire to own a Chihuahua. Your household will be better of with multiple Chihuahuas if that is your chosen breed.

The Chihuahua has no claims of ties to royalty and any hunting abilities or heritage. The Chihuahua is known primarily as a wonderful little social able human companion and that is the main purpose of the Chihuahua today and in time past. The Chihuahua is quite content to have no work assigned to it. He fits nicely even in the smallest spaces and is content to spend his days lying in the sun or being pampered by its humans. The Chihuahua makes a perfect pocket pal and can travel with you just about anywhere almost invisible to strangers. The Chihuahua is not a big eater; therefore, food expense for the Chihuahua is quite minimal. He actually requires no kind of special care beyond a warm place to sleep and his treasured humans.

Chihuahua is usually most comfortable with senior adults and other adult families. They do not fit well into homes with preschoolers, toddlers or young adolescents. Preschoolers may try to grab at the Chihuahua, toddlers are likely to step on it or fall over it and young adolescents in their busy rush of a day may injure it.

Personality

The Chihuahua will usually claim ownership of one family member with whom it bonds tightly. He is brave, loyal, affectionate and intelligent that can be highly sensitive and stubborn. He does not do well walking on a leash and being taken for long walks. It is just easier to pick up the Chihuahua and carry him on your walk rather than have him in a collar and on a leash. They are mostly house companions and adornments. Some are able to learn tricks and may even enjoy performing for guests.

Appearance

The Chihuahua has no height standard but usually stands about 5 inches tall and weighs no more than 6 pounds. Its skull is described as an apple dome shape, with or without a spot spot. Its muzzle is short and pointed. The Chihuahua is shown in smooth- and longhaired varieties. The smooth varietys coat should be soft, glossy and close. The longhaired variety coat has a soft texture withor without waves or curls, its ears are edged with fringes, and its tail, feet, legs and neck are well feathered. Colors are any color or combination of colrs, solid, marked, or splashed.

Grooming

You will need a cushioned bristle brush and a medium-toothed comb for both the smooth coat and long haired varieties. The long haired Chihuahua is easy to maintain with weekly brushing. The short haired coat also benefits from weekly brushings. You can use a chamois cloth to bring the coat up to a shine in the short haired Chihuhua.

The experience in situations of life and death very easily describe feelings you get when you dont know where your next meal ticket will come from! A guru in the internet marketing field sums it up in his own experience when he said, Ive seen war zones, but nothing prepared me for the utter panic I felt that day as the realization set in! The average persons guide to making money online draws on the very fundamental of internet marketing.

1. The Attitude

The average person is in danger of hearing words like this one at work unannounced, No More Company, No More Money, and So No More Pete! Does it sound familiar? In his great book (in my opinion), Who Moved My Cheese, Spencer Johnson admonishes everyone who cares to listen to constantly smell the cheese to make sure its not stale so you are not caught unawares! The cheese here will especially mean, but is not restricted to, your JOB. The idea is that the pace of change out there is not easily discounted for and shouldnt we be on our toes?!

Many experiences show that the average person gets the best and quickest results when uncertainty is thrust on them. It creates urgency and a squeezing of the brains good juices when a job goes out through the window. It could also be a smouldering and passionate hatred for your ongoing, unsatisfying and unfulfilling job! Good news is that there are tools in internet marketing that will get you up and running and smiling in no time. Devastatingly simple processes! How does it sound when all you have to do is stand on the shoulder of an already successful internet marketer so you can avoid the pitfalls and booby traps early on in your internet marketing career?!

2. Get A Domain Name And Website.

One pitfall to avoid in getting started in internet marketing is the tendency to over complicate things. This probably stems from what we have been taught from childhood that hard work equates to financial reward and so things must look a bit complicated! How do I make money from a domain name and a website? Think about a SIMPLE one page website with one theme running all through the one page (no complications). Another heads up in internet marketing is, whatever you do to get started in internet marketing, remember to DO ONE THING AT A TIME! Its sounds simple enough but a great many of us just get about doing so many things at the same time. How come we dont remember that a jack of all trades is the master of none? I am excited by the deluge of helpful resources available on the internet to help achieve a purpose as simple as creating a one page website for example. You no longer have to be an expert to create a professionally looking website. Check out some helpful websites like; www.godaddy.com, www.yahoo.com and www.fasthosts.co.uk. You would want to avoid free websites if you are serious about making money online. Truth is, there isnt much that is actually gratis on the internet! With free websites you end up with whooping great advertisements on the bottom of your emails or horrible pop-ups on your website.

3. What Will You Be Selling?

I will tell you that a great many internet marketing books scream about how great it is to go with anyone of the selling models available on the internet. They do this without encouraging you to find out what will come natural with your own person! Its probably not there fault because the front page of e-books already warn that you are responsible for any personal liability, loss, or risk incurred, as a consequence of acting on the information sold to you! Also remember that it is your responsibility to critically assess my advice or any gurus advice and get on with, for example, the number of products you think suits you. What will I be selling?

1. Affiliate sales

2. E-books

3. Software

This isnt hard to do. The first time is the hardest but when you do it right first time you can repeat the process and join the gang of those who earn a comfortable living through multiple income streams. Imagine having 25 websites selling with each website making over $1,000 every month? Our dreams are all weve got and we can make them happen! Its time to start working. See you at the top!

Nobody likes dirty feet in their vehicle. Be it hunters, Soccer Moms or anyone in between, everybody wants the inside of their car to be neat and tidy. So, what they do to maintain the cleanliness of car floor! Obviously, it is the car mats they turn to. By putting some nice looking mats on the floor, they keep the floor clean and protected as well.

But mats are something that a car owner probably does not think about very often. It is when they consider the high cost of replacing the carpet for their car, floor mats suddenly become a cost-effective option. They are available not only in a variety of colours but also affordable within the budget of even the most frugal car owners.

Car mats are an essential accessory when it comes to protecting your investment, especially if you live in an area that witnesses lots of winter weather. Without this particular car accessory, slush and snow can soak into your car through the carpet padding, and cause rusting on the floor pans even before you know it. So, mats deserve equal attention as any other accessory.

Buying car mats also deserve a little extra care. It is not possible for you to make time and shop for it frequently. So, take a little time out of your busy schedule and decide what type of mats will perfectly suit your need. Mats are available in a wide variety of colours and materials to suit the demand of any and every user.

An all-vinyl floor mat or heavy-duty floor mat may be a better choice, if ice, snow, and slush are common in the part of the country where you drive your car very often. Custom-fit floor mats are available for other type of weather also. Regarding colour they offer an unlimited variety. So, there will be no problem to get one that matches with the colour and interior design of the car.

If you dont have good equipment there is no way you will have a well groomed Shih Tzu. As with all jobs, proper tools are essential to doing a job well.

Clippers

One of the most important pieces of equipment is the clipper. For a Shih Tzu owner grooming only one Shih Tzu, one of the best is Oster with snap-on blades. The blades can be changed easily. Various blades needed are No. 10, No. 7 and No. 4. No. 10 will give you a complete shave down. No. 7 blade will give you not so close of a cut as the No. 10. No 4 blade will give you the stylish puppy cut that so many Shih Tzu pet owners like for their pet Shih Tzu.

Combs

You will need a fine-toothed comb and a medium-toothed comb. You will also need a very tiny comb to comb the hair on the face. Combs with metal handles are more durable.

Brushes

The brush is very important. While the professional groomer who grooms all the breeds will need a variety of brushes, the Shih Tzu owner will need the proper brushes for a Shih Tzu. A soft wire slicker brush is the best for fluff-drying. It can be used to remove tangles from the Shih Tzus coat, but it must be used very gently. The hard wire slicker is used to remove mats. A pin brush is used for tidying the long hair of a Shih Tzu. It cannot be used for hard brushing. If your Shih Tzus hair is fine, you can use a natural-bristle brush made of boar bristles. A vegetable brush or toothbrush can be used on all the places that are hard to get at, especially on the face, around and between the eyes of the Shih Tzu.

Use a spray conditioner when brushing your Shih Tzus hair. The conditioner should have a lanolin base and should not contain alcohol. Alcohol can discolor and dry out the hair of the Shih Tzu. If you do not have the correct type on hand, use plain water in a spray bottle. When you use coat conditioner or water when brushing your Shih Tzus hair, you will prevent static electricity and causing the hair to break.

Secret 3: Listen Up, friends of Runescape! Dont Lose in Runescape

As obvious as it might seem in Runescape, this is one of the most often-forgotten rules in Runescape. In RuneScape, losing means dying and also means losing something valuable. Think about it, all friends of Runescape.

Imagine yourself in Runescape, friends of Runescape, rich with gold and armored in full rune in Runescape. You decide to check out the deep Wilderness in Runescape, but realize youve never been there before while playing Runescape. You shrug and bring along a bunch of lobsters and a law rune while playing Runescape after all, you can just teleport back instantly if something goes wrong in Runescape. You arrive at level 39 Wilderness in Runescape, kill a few giants in Runescape, and spot some newbie running around in Runescape. You laugh and decide to kill him as well as you are playing Runescape. While youre enjoying the iron the newbie dropped in Runescape, two level 80 mages show up in Runescape.

They notice the gigantic skull above your head and start attacking you as youre playing Runescape, hitting 25s and 30s with their spells in Runescape more than you thought possible in Runescape. You eat lobsters as fast as you can in Runescape, and quickly click on Teleport to Varrock but nothing happens in Runescape. The lobsters run out, the 80s laugh, and you lose yourself a full set of rune in Runescape. You lose in Runescape, friends of Runescape.

This could happen to any players in Runescape. And if you dont take the time to learn about where youre going to go in Runescape such as the fact that you cant teleport past level 20 wilderness in Runescape then youre going to lose a lot of items in Runescape. This doesnt only apply to the wilderness in Runescape: always scout a place out in Runescape(or look it up) before going there in Runescape. Many people lose a lot of valuable equipment in Runescape because they didnt know how aggressive and strong some creatures are while playing Runescape.

Making one million gp a day in Runescape isnt going to help much if you keep losing it all in Runescape by dying with expensive equipment on in Runescape!

Dont get me wrong, friends of Runescape. Dying isnt that bad of a thing by itself in Runescape you can use it as a free teleport to Lumbridge in Runescape, in fact. The problem is when you lose valuable items and equipments in Runescape.

To prevent unnecessary dying such mentioned above in Runescape, always look up where youre going to go in Runescape. If its somewhere youve never been before in Runescape, make it so that you know what kind of monsters live in that area in Runescape. Know whether theyre aggressive in Runescape (like deadly red spiders) and know whether you can beat them in Runescape. Here are a few rules of thumb to use whenever adventuring in Runescape:

1. Always look the area up beforehand in Runescape.

2. Always bring some sort of food Runescape.

3. Never bring exorbitant amounts of gold or other unnecessary stackables in Runescape.

4. Save your running for when it counts walk when its not necessary in Runescape.

Basically, friends of Runescape, do everything thats NOT mentioned above in Runescape. Alternatively, you can just decide to go there in Runescape, look around, and die in Runescape. In this case, you can bring three items (or four if you have Protect Items) and minimal food in Runescape.

Other names the Chinese Crested is known as are:

Chinese Edible Dog
Chinese Ship Dog
Chinese Hairless
Chinese Royal Hairless
Pyramid or Giza Hairless
South African Hairless
Turkish Hairless

The crest in its name refers to a copious shock of silky hair that graces the dogs head.

The Chinese Crested is found everywhere, but has never reached great popularity. It has often been exhibited in circuses and carnivals as a freak. However, this little dog has many assets that go unrecognized.

There are two types of the Chinese Crested:

Hairless
With a full coat, which is called the Powderpuff

The Powderpuff is just about identical to the hairless except for the coat. The two are interbred and shown together. If you breed a hairless to a hairless or a Powderpuff to a hairless you can end up with either type or both types of puppies. Breeding a Powderpuff to a Powderpuff will always produce the Powderpuff type puppies.

Some authors claim the origin of the Chinese Crested is Africa. Others find its origin in Mexico or any of several other warm countries. The Chinese Crested is known to have been carried by trading ships from and to many different ports where it was bought and sold. Therefore, its origin is shrouded by sea tales.

The date of origin of the Chinese Crested is considered to be during the thirteenth century. Oriental countries concentrated on breeding miniaturized dogs, so the Chinese Crested ancestors probably include some of these small, hairless mutations.

The Chinese Crested originally enjoyed a pampered life with few duties except those associated with being a good companion. Very early in the development of the Chinese Crested breed it was probably used as a ratter on trading ships and was even sometimes eaten by human residents of these trading ships (how horribly awful to think of eating such a beautiful creature).

Personality

The Chinese Crested is said to be a nimble and cunning playmate. He is a vigilant and sensitive house dog. The Chinese Crested is a loving and obedient pet. He socializes well with other pets and is only a little cautious of strangers. The Chinese Crested is lively and active, but is rarely seen in agility contests. He is easily trained and should do well in obedience work.

Appearance

The Chinese Crested is fine-boned and graceful. He stands about 11 to 13 inches tall and weighs 5 to 12 pounds. He is athletic-looking and well muscled. The legs of a Chinese Crested are straight and strong. The Chinese Crested has a copious shock of silky hair that graces his head. Hair is absent over much of the remainder of its body except for tufts of hair on the tail and feet.

The Powderpuff has a flowing double coat of silky hair that covers its entire body. It is seen in any coat color or combination of colors.

Exercise Requirements

As with most toy breeds the Chinese Crested needs a minimal amount of exercise which can be obtained in your backyard.

Grooming

The Chinese Crested needs to be kept clean with frequent baths using a good shampoo followed by a moisturizer like baby oil or baby lotion. This routine is especially true for the hairless type.

The Powderpuff requires regular brushing and combing. The teeth need cleaning regularly.

You will need a good-quality bristle brush and a safety razor (to shave the face) for the Hairless variety. For the Powderpuff coat you will need a good-quality bristle brush, a wide-toothed comb and clippers.

The skin of the Hairless type responds well to frequent oiling by massaging baby oil or Nivea face cream into the hairless parts. This helps to keep the skin on the Chinese Crested Hairless type smooth and nicely moisturized.

The Powderpuff puppy requires frequent brushing with a bristle or pin brush particularly when the puppy coat changes to the adult coat, at which time daily grooming may be needed. The coat of a Powderpuff Chinese Crested should be brushed in layers with the lie of the coat.

After bathing, grooming and blow-drying, the face should be shaved using clippers (10 mm blade). Take a line from the outer corner of the eye to the ear and in a gentle curve from the ear down to the Adams apple. This cut is similar to the face of a Poodle. In the U.S. the Powderpuff face is not shaved. Finish off the entire body with a wide-toothed comb if desired. The comb will find any remaining tangles in the coat. Of note in the Chinese Crested is that the dogs nails should be moderately long.

Positive Dog Training for Newbies

| Wednesday, August 13, 2008 | 0 comments »

Positive dog training was developed under the principles of Skinner's operant conditioning. While it's not a new technique, it didn't get enough popularity until the nineties.

Former students of Skinner, psychologists Keller and Marian Breland, pioneered commercial applications of operant conditioning when they created Animal Behavior Enterprises (ABE) on 1942. ABE was the first company that offered positive training services.

The huge popularity of traditional training prevented ABE to succeed in dog training. So, the Breland's company was forced to look for new niches and ABE got focused on training animals for TV shows and commercials. Keller and Marian also pioneered dolphin training for aquaria and US navy.

Positive reinforcement is the main teaching way of these techniques. Positive reinforcement is not the same as reward, though this is a common misconception.

Positive reinforcement is the process that strengthens a behavior because a pleasant situation occurs as a consequence of that particular behavior. For instance, if you give a food treat to your dog when he lies down, he will tend to lie down more frequently to get that delicious treat. Thus, your dog will be learning to lie down through positive reinforcement.

On the other hand, if your dog lies down and you reward him after 10 seconds, he may not associate the action of lying down with the reward. He may think you gave him the treat because he was looking up, or moving his ears. So, you rewarded your dog but you didn't reinforce the desired behavior.

Some people think that positive trainers never teach to the dog that a particular behavior is unacceptable. This is a common and big misinterpretation. Practitioners of positive training do teach this to dogs, but they don't use punishment or negative reinforcement for that.

Clicker training is the most popular of these techniques in many countries. It is the same technique used by Keller and Marian Breland, and was popularized by the biologist and dolphin trainer Karen Pryor.

The main difference between clicker training and other positive techniques is the use of a clicker in the former. A clicker is just a small device that emits a click-click sound when squeezed. It is used to mark the exact moment in which the dog performed a desired behavior.

The absolute absence of negative reinforcement, punishment and training collars (choke, prong or shock) make of positive dog training a very friendly technique to both dogs and owners. This could be the main advantage of this kind of training.

Other advantages are that positive dog training is easy to understand and fun to carry out. Besides, these techniques are not only focused on obedience exercises. Instead, they are widely used to solve behavioral problems.

Detractors of these techniques claim that dogs trained in a positive way won't be able to respond properly unless they can see (or scent) a food treat. These people also claim that positive trained behaviors are not reliable under variable circumstances.

Although very common, those claims are not true. The efficacy of positive training is demonstrated each day by hundreds of service dogs for disabled people, police dogs, competition dogs and performing dogs.

Its a Wonderful Pet?

| Wednesday, August 13, 2008 | 0 comments »

Isnt it funny how we dont realize what we have until its gone. Like the parent who pushes the kids off to college only to suffer from empty nest syndrome a week later, or like the guy that sells his hot rod only to spend the rest of his life drooling at ever car show in town. Wouldnt it be nice if you could have someone show you in advanced the consequences of your actions or show you what the world would be should you never have been born?

Just think for a moment, its evening, youre just getting home from work. You enter the house to be greeted by your family, but there is only one exception, there are no pets. No one ever thought to domesticate dogs, cats, fish, hamsters, and even snakes. So you say your hellos and then start to get ready for dinner. Youre then told how your son is having difficulties in school because he doesnt communicate well with others. Mom and Dad were always working and without that pet to interact with he just kept to himself.

After dinner you sit in front of the television. You drape you arm over the side of the chair, but theres no fur rubbing against your hand. No dog to curl up at your feet. No cat curling around your neck. Then the phone rings, its your sister. Shes calling you because shes alone and needs someone to talk to, because she doesnt have those fish, an African Grey, or that lovable French Bulldog to talk to. She tells you about her blind neighbor who needs to have someone guide her around.

The morning comes as scheduled so you get up grab your shower, eat breakfast, and youre out the door. Wait, whats this, no morning jog? But you need to get that body weight down. Oh, wait, there was no dog to walk to give you that extra push to get out and get moving. You then turn on the radio to hear reports of wild dogs terrorizing the public, and uncontrollable amounts of wild rabbits causing numbers of auto accidents.

Finally you come home for lunch. The house is empty. The silence is maddening, you could really use someone to talk to or curl up on your lap. But that would be silly, because animals dont belong in doors, and animals are dangerous. As you sit there in your cold, quite house, you realize how truly alone you are. Then your silence is broken by the sound of your PDA chiming with a reminder that you need to see your Psychiatrist today. Hopefully he will find the root to your depression. As you walk out the door you think, There must be something missing! Suddenly you wake up to the feeling of a wet nose poking your face, a purring in your ear, and you breath a sigh of relief that it was only a nightmare.

How much would you miss pets if you sudden found yourself in a life with out them? Doesnt it make sense to enjoy every minute we can with them? So today take some time and just think about what your life would be without your pets. If you dont have a pet, just dialup your local shelter or rescue. Together we all can see to it that we never have to live a life without PETS!
